A few minutes into the movie Frozen, Prince Hans proposes to Anna even though they’ve just met. My husband leaned toward me and whispered, “that was fast.”
My thoughts exactly. We don’t find out until later that Prince Hans is the bad guy, but I think most of us felt that check in our gut telling us something wasn’t right.
Next, Anna meets Kristoff. When they get into trouble and their sleigh is about to go over a cliff, Kristoff cuts the rope and tosses Anna to safety. That was the moment I knew he was the one.
The other day my friend mentioned the importance of teaching our daughters to look for certain qualities in their future husbands. NOT JUST THE LABEL OF CHRISTIAN. I want my daughter to know that finding a Christian spouse is of utmost importance, but that there’s more too.
Does he attend church with a joyful heart or a dutiful one? Is he quick to forgive or does he hold a grudge? How does he treat his friends, his sister, his mother? These are conversations I can have right now, in the everyday with my kids.
After watching Frozen, I talked to my daughter about that moment when Kristoff puts Anna’s safety above his own. We also talked about the beginning, when Prince Hans proposes so quickly. We spoke about taking the time to get to know someone and not making hasty decisions, about how to spot important qualities in the people around us.
My daughter wrinkled her nose at the subject of boys, but she did participate. While she didn’t say much, I know she heard. It’s not going to be the last time I use the ordinary to bring up the subject of a future spouse.
And for all of the moms out there harboring a secret cartoon-crush on Kristoff, you now have the perfect excuse to watch the movie with your kids one more time.

Jill!!! Seriously, love this. It’s so important to talk to our kids about the things that matter most. Awesome post! And yes Kristoff is awesome. May I request another fabulous post featuring Flynn of Rapunzel fame?! (LOL since writing the last I learned that both Flynn and Rapunzel are IN Frozen for a split second, did you know that…?)
